Simon Pegg is no stranger to being the man behind the computer, with multiple appearances in the Mission: Impossible franchise as the tech guy supporting Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt. But his role in the upcoming series The Undeclared War seems like it’ll be a little more grounded than the usual spy antics. Check out the trailer for the upcoming Peacock series below:
Set in 2024 post-pandemic UK, The Undeclared War looks like it’ll be very relevant to the current state of the world, as it tells the story of a young student named Saara Parvan (Hannah Khalique-Brown) who finds a security breach during her first day working for the malware department at GCHQ . As they find Russia might be behind the attacks, a data war escalates between the two countries. The analysts work to prevent the cyber-attacks from interfering with the upcoming British general election. Along with Hannah Khalique-Brown and Simon Pegg, The Undeclared War also stars Academy-Award winner Mark Rylance. The cast also includes Adrian Lester, Alex Jennings, and Maisie Richardson-Sellers.
Multiple-time BAFTA award winner Peter Kominsky serves as the creator and director of the series. Declan Lawn, Adam Patterson, and Amelia Spencer were on the writing staff. If you’re interested in seeing Simon Pegg and the rest of the cast wage cyber warfare, you can catch The Undeclared War when it hits Peacock on August 18.
Those who love seeing Simon Pegg as technician Benji Dunn in the Mission: Impossible franchise are in luck because we’ll be getting a double-dose of the series over the next couple of years. We’ll be getting a new Mission: Impossible movie next summer with Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning, Part One and the following summer with Mission: Impossible—Dead Reckoning, Part Two. Christopher McQuarrie is back to direct and writes the screenplay for both entries. Of course, Tom Cruise will be back as Ethan Hunt, along with other returning actors to the series like Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson, and Vanessa Kirby. Newcomers include Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Esai Morales, Rob Delaney, Charles Parnell, Indira Varma, Mark Gatiss, Greg Tarzan Davis, and Cary Elwes.
While we might have to wait a year to see another Mission: Impossible film, Simon Pegg’s next project is much closer, with the animated film Luck releasing on August 5. This movie will see Simon Pegg engaging in another war of sorts, as the worlds of bad luck and good luck collide. Pegg plays the black cat Bob alongside Eva Noblezada’s unluck Sam Greenfield. Jane Fonda, Whoopi Goldberg, Flula Borg, and Lil Rey Howery also star. Luck will be streaming on Apple TV+. After that, you’ll just have to wait a couple of weeks for The Undeclared War to hit Peacock. Meanwhile, you can see Pegg briefly reprise his role in The Boys episode “Payback” as Hughie’s father. You can also hear him in the animated anthology The Boys Presents: Diabolical where he voices the character of Hughie, whose appearance in the comics was actually based on Pegg.
